The KÉK – Contemporary Architecture Centre, is an independent professional organization, which strives to further the education, introduction and development of architecture in the largest possible professional and unprofessional environment.
Our goal is to create open debate forums for collective thinking about the city, and to make the contemporary questions of architecture and urban development widely publicly accessible.
Since its establishment in 2006, the KÉK has launched several unique initiatives. The Budapest Architecture Film Days, organized since 2008, is the first architecture film festival of the region, which has turned into the second largest event of its kind in Europe.
The artur.org.hu, which was established in 2009-2010 and introduces the architecture of Budapest and Pécs, won the World Summit Youth Award in 2010.
The Budapest 100, which was established to open those houses of Budapest which celebrate their centenary, was mentioned among the best cultural events of Europe by the British Guardian periodical in 2013, and the LebendigeStadtStiftung in Hamburg has acknowledged it in the ‘Most beautiful urban festival” topic. The distribution of community gardening in Hungary is also one of the most successful initiatives of KÉK. The followings were created within the frames of the programme started in 2010: the so called Lecsós Kert in the Millenaris Park, the Leonardo Kert in district VIII., and the biggest, 2600m2 community garden of Budapest on Soroksári street.
Organic parts of our activities are researching and counselling carried out for city councils and the private sector, mostly in the topics of city rehabilitation, property development, tourism and environmental protection. Apart from the above, we take part in different professional networks and international co-operations. We share our opinion in the domestic and international professional media through the publications of our trustees.
